MINUTES – Nov. 16, 2009

The November 16th  meeting convened at 7:45 PM, following dinner.

Jane Reilly welcomed everyone, and introductions were made. 

The minutes were approved from the September 14th meeting.

Dr. Laumbach read the financial report and also indicated names for funded students.

Jon Sterling appropriated $1200 for piano tuning and Patty Infantino seconded it.

Thank you Letters:

Dr. Laumbach read “Thank you” letters from Yasmin Poustchi, Chris Lakhiani, Cara Bergamo and Natalie Redziniak. 

Student Travel:

The money left for student travel was $500.  Dr. Laumbach asked for more money, $500 extra, to fund students.  A motion was made and seconded.  All agreed for the extra money.

Global Health funds – Patty mentioned possibly allocating funds at the next AFF meeting.  This goes through the Global Health Office.  Dr. Laumbach expressed that students may be contacting her in February for summer funding.

 Committee Reports:

Stitches - Lou Penn would like to take clothing, etc. over to New Brunswick for some sales.  Would like to introduce some new items:  stethoscope pin, Dr. Bear, beanie and Ladies zip up jackets.

Trademark for new Stethoscope Pin is:

$19.00 – Wholesale
$30.00 – Sale Price

Had a sale on Nov. 6th and the next sale will be on Nov. 19, 2009.  Would like to try to hit every Thursday after Thanksgiving.  Have a new order form now.

Jane asked Lou to explain to committee how to volunteer for clothing sales.  Lou explained the hours that the parents would be selling and how to go about getting a reserved parking spot.  Carol Smith suggested that we sell for 3 days in the first week of December.

Fundraising:

Jon Sterling’s Fundraising Committee was at the Nov. Meeting at 5:00 PM to pack envelopes for Appeal Letters, which will be sent out on Nov. 17, 2009.  The breakdown of funds for AFF is:

40% - Appeal Letters
40% - Clothing Sales
16% - BBQ
4% - Other

Jon thanked everyone for their generosity.  They have a larger committee this year.  In February a second appeal letter should be sent out.

Brunch:

The Spring Brunch this year will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2010.  Jane Reilly mentioned that the Brunch last year was very successful.  Last year’s speaker was Dr. Sonia Laumbach.  Ginny Olive agreed to chair the Spring Brunch again this year.  Mariya Brown volunteered to help Ginny.  There will be a 50/50 drawing at the Brunch.

Old Business:

Care & Share Form was approved.
Dr. Laumbach reported on the TVs

Dr. Laumbach reported on students.  There will be a summer research meeting in November.  Students will have a Residency meeting in January and a meeting “How to Rock the 2nd Yr.)

Jon Sterling asked to be updated about the Media Library.  Dr. Laumbach mentioned that not much had been heard from the IST Department.  There will be a 24 hour access with a touch pad.

Discussion arose about the AFF meeting days as to how to let the parents in.  Dr. Laumbach suggested that someone man the area.  It was agreed that the best door to enter the building was the door by the Hippocrates Statue.

 The next AFF meeting will be March 8, 2010.
