AFF Meetings MEMBERS PRESENT: Class of 2011 – Barbara Bagay, Michal & Nachman Gendelberg, Carol & Basil Smith Jane Reilly welcomed everyone and introductions were made. Patty motioned to approve November 15th minutes, and they were approved. Financial Report Dr. Laumbach read the financial report and discussed the money set aside for events. Students can request money for food, etc. for their events. Dr. Laumbach asked the committee for suggestions on how they would like that money to be spent. Patty mentioned that it would be nice to have more charitable programs like DISC and asked how to get students interested in funding community events as opposed to just food. Dr. Laumbach mentioned that the measure for getting money for these events was that it had to be open to all years, not just 1st and 2nd. Dr. Laumbach explained that she always asks students to provide her with another source of funding first. Jane stated that “open to all years” doesn’t mean it has to be open to all. Lou Penn said that it should be balanced and serve what the need is. Dr. Laumbach mentioned that we do not disperse money for any events serving alcohol. Jane motioned to reverse the policy giving Dr. Laumbach more leeway to disperse money. Subcommittee Reports Fundraising – Jon Sterling Jon would like followup appeal letters to go out in April. He will get his subcommittee ready to do the mailing to all parents again. He asked Jean Martin to email him a copy of last spring’s appeal letter. Stitches Report – Lou Penn Lou mentioned that there will be a sale this weekend at the Brunch on April 3rd and that they will have a sale again on April 15th at the Admissions New Student Orientation. Barbara Colaco and Lou will sell at this Admissions event. Lou is also hoping to have one more sale date before the semester ends. Credit cards have been working very well this year; people are using them a lot. Lou has lowered prices on sweatshirts because they are now having screening done instead of embroidery. She will sell the old stock first and then replenish with new stock for the Orientation BBQ. Lou asked that if members volunteer for events that they please show up. Brunch Mariya reported on the Brunch mentioning that the numbers are way down from last year. Patty stated that we are only making $.50 on student tickets and $5.50 on adult tickets this year. Jane asked if anyone knew of others to invite in light of the numbers being so low. Dr. Laumbach stated she would email some faculty to invite to the Brunch. Jane mentioned that if anyone who may consider coming to the Brunch and says $20 is too much, then give them the entrance for $15. Jon Sterling asked if the hospital has any connection with the Rotary Club as they are very good with selling tickets. He thought this might be good for this event. Dr. Laumbach read some thank you letters from students who have traveled and used some of the Global Health Funds. Election of New Officers in May Jane asked if anyone is interested in volunteering for a position to let them know. Class Updates 1st Years – They have done quite well in their new curriculum. Right now they are interested in applying to be Peer Mentors for next year. 2nd Years – They are getting prepared to take their Step I exam. 4th Years – Match Day was March 17th, and we had a 98% match. It was 94% nationwide. The students had their AOA and GHHS dinners the same week as Match Day. Graduation Banquet will be coming up in May. The bakers who volunteered for this meeting were Donna Herman, Sue Madurski and Robin Tabakin. Volunteers to bring desserts in May are Sue Madurski, Magda Hendrikx and Carol Smith.
